Pretty Woman! The hit musical with music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, is now on tour to Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Based on the 1990 film of the same name written by Lawton and directed by Marshall, which made a huge impact on the box office takings, mostly due to the two iconic actors, Julia Roberts, and Richard Gere. The story centers around a free-spirited Hollywood sex worker Vivian Ward, who is hired by Edward Lewis, a wealthy businessman, to be his escort for several business and social functions, and their developing relationship over the course of her week-long stay with him.

The musical version has been updated since the 90s movie, and while the setting remains firmly in the 80s with the big-hair and the even bigger Brian Adams soundtrack banging away, Vivian’s agency and control over her occupation is balanced with the songs “this isn’t me” and “I can’t go back,” showing she doesn’t need anyone else to save her.
