Pretty Woman! The hit musical with music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, is now on tour to Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Based on the 1990 film of the same name written by Lawton and directed by Marshall, which made a huge impact on the box office takings, mostly due to the two iconic actors, Julia Roberts, and Richard Gere. The story centers around a free-spirited Hollywood sex worker Vivian Ward, who is hired by Edward Lewis, a wealthy businessman, to be his escort for several business and social functions, and their developing relationship over the course of her week-long stay with him.

The show centers around the gorgeous, Vivian Ward and the fabulously wealthy businessman, Edward Lewis. Vivian, a uninhibited and unbashfull Hollywood sex worker lives with her best friend, the sarcastic and wisecracking roommate, Kit De Luca. Kit has taught Vivian all she knows of the escort and sex work trade. In the show, Vivian is hired by the handsome, and extremely wealthy businessman, Edward Lewis, for an extremely lucrative weeklong contract. Vivien agrees to merely be his escort for several important business and social functions, but soon finds out that he requires the best and he expects to get what he paid for. Money has never really been a hinderance in getting what Edward wants, and towards the end of the week, Vivien has come to terms with how the rich and famous live. And Edward is coming to terms with the fact that there might just be more to life that loads of money.
The musical version has been updated since the 90s movie, and while the setting remains firmly in the 80s with the big-hair and the even bigger Brian Adams soundtrack banging away, Vivian’s agency and control over her occupation is balanced with the songs “this isn’t me” and “I can’t go back,” showing she doesn’t need anyone else to save her.
