Ballet Hispanico invites you to come celebrate the life of Eva Perón and witness an abstract portrait of her life full of scandals, victories, and heartbreak through contemporary ballet dance at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium on Saturday, September 23, 2023! From rumors of sleeping her way up the social ladder to becoming the face of the women’s rights movement and the lower economic class, Eva Perón became and remained to be one of Argentina’s most controversial women.

Her life is translated to the show: Doña Perón, which is choreographed by award-winning choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa accompanied by an original musical score composed by Peter Salem to create an abstract expression of some of the most critical moments of Eva Perón’s life.

The performers group is a renowned dance company and cultural organization that prides itself in representing the experiences of the Latinx and Hispanic community through dance since its foundation in 1970. Ballet Hispanico aims to bridge communities together while also embracing the diversity of these communities through artistic expression.

To summarize the life of Doña Perón’s titular character, Eva Perón, more commonly known as Evita, was born in poverty and was an illegitimate child. Due to her financial struggles, Eva became an actress at age 15. She quickly rose to popularity, and people speculate that Eva slept with many men to gain that social power. Eva Perón was a key player in her husband’s campaign to become President as Eva won the hearts of the lower economic class. But despite her controversial past, Eva Perón became the face of women’s rights and equality in Argentina during her time. She campaigned for women to have the right to vote and formed political parties around the women’s rights movement. Eva Perón continued to fight for women until she lost her battle with cervical cancer in 1952. But her legacy lives on in Ballet Hispanico’s Doña Perón reimagination of her story.

The event will be held at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, a performing arts venue in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
