Loreena McKennitt is a renowned soprano revered for her exquisite brand of world music. Her performances are often influenced by traditional Celtic and Middle Eastern music. She’s often praised by fans and critics for her refined, crisp vocals and talent for performing various instruments, including the harp, accordion, and piano. McKennnitt has achieved commercial success in North America and beyond. Her impressive vocal performances have led to multiple accolades, including two Juno Awards, a Billboard Music Award, two Grammy nominations, and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Western Canadian Music Awards. McKennit was also given several honorary degrees from various colleges and universities in Canada.

In 2002, McKennitt received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medel. She later received the higher honor of Dimoand Jubilee Medal ten years later. In 2013, she was knighted in France by the Ordre de Arts et des Lettres for her significant contributions to culture and music. The following year was appointed Honorary Colonel of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

McKennitt has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. She released her debut album, Elemental, in 1985 via the independent record label Quinlan Road. The label, owned by McKennit, was initially based out of her home. In 1991, McKennit released her breakthrough album, the Visit. The four-time platinum-selling effort was her first record to be distributed by a major label. The following year, the album co-won the 1992 Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album of the Year.

In 1994, McKennit continued her winning streak by releasing another commercially successful album. The Mask and Mirror peaked at number 4 on the Canadian chart and was her first album to enter the international charts, including the U.S. The Mask and Mirror also topped Billboard’s World Albums and peaked at number 7 on the New Age Albums chart. The record’s success led to a triple platinum certification in Canada and gold in the U.S.

McKennit’s 38-year career has produced ten highly-acclaimed studio albums and seven live efforts. This 2023, she celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Visit and will perform several tracks from the four-time platinum record during the outing, titled The Visit Revisited.
