This season’s spectacle features “Away We Go,” a celebration of three female choreographers and their works. For the 2022 to 2023 season, Alberta Ballet’s talented pool of dancers will perform the masterpieces of Cathy Marston, Alysa Pires, and Helen Pickett! These three renowned choreographers have significantly contributed to the ballet industry. Their artistry and perseverance are unprecedented. Albert Ballet’s Away We Go is a unique ballet show composed of three programs. The company’s artistic director, Christopher Anderson, expressed his delight in featuring the works of three highly-regarded choreographers, Cathy Marston, Alysa Pires, and Helen Pickett. “This program speaks to the undeniable perseverance of the artist,” he said in a statement. The programs “Moving Still,” “Skyward,” and “Petal” weren’t able to push through when the pandemic halted the ballet season. This year, Alberta Ballet highlights these incredible works. “As we return with a full mainstage season, this collection represents the return of our momentum. I can’t wait to welcome these artistic collaborators into our studios, and I can’t wait to see the Alberta Ballet dancers illuminate the stage with these works,” Anderson added.
Since 1996, Alberta Ballet has been delivering phenomenal shows to Canadian and international audiences. This season, the ballet company introduced the new artistic director, Christopher Anderson. His predecessor, Jean Grand-Maître, was the longest director in Alberta Ballet’s history. This 2022, Anderson will be taking over after a year of co-direction with Grand-Maître. In a statement, Grand-Maître shared his delight in passing the ranks to Anderson. "I’ve been honored to have had two decades serving the wonderful people of Alberta. I inherited a great company from the distinguished line of artistic directors who led valiantly before me. I am thrilled that Christopher Anderson's powerful vision will continue to lead our acclaimed company into a brilliant future."
